Uthingo was the first operating company for the national lottery, having won the bid for the seven-year license in 1999.
DEC Investment Holding’s share in Uthingo Management (Pty) Ltd was 4.99%. In addition the DEC Trust directly held a 0.01 percentage share in Uthingo Management (Pty) Ltd, making a total of 5%.
Total South Africa (Pty) Ltd is one of the big five in the petroleum industry and also has interests in neighbouring countries in Southern Africa.
DEC was one of fourteen (14) shareholders in Tosaco (Pty) Ltd, a broad-based empowerment consortium which became a 25% shareholder in April 2003. DEC held 6% of Tosaco, or an effective 1,5% of Total SA. This interest was disposed of in December 2015.
DEC held 4% of the Thelo Aviation Consortium (Pty) Ltd, which is the beneficial owner of 15% of Comair Ltd, the operator of British Airways in South Africa and Kulula.com and associated activities.
In other words, DEC held an effective 0,6% of Comair.
DEC was a 3% ‘shareholder’ in the Sisonke Partnership, the empowerment partner of International Healthcare Distributors, distributing pharmaceutical products for a number of major international pharmaceutical companies.
Desert Charm (Pty) Ltd, trading as Waterpan Mining Consortium (WMC)
DEC was a 5% equity holder in Desert Charm, which held 5% of the listed First Uranium Corporation, a resources company focused on the development of uranium and gold mining in South Africa.
DEC held 210,500 MTN Zakhele shares in terms of MTN’s BEE transaction.
Armadillo is a manufacturer of roll-tops, roller doors and other products, primarily used as after-market accessories for bakkies and truck bodies. DEC owned 30% of Armadillo.
