DEC owned 30% of Fabkomp, which is an automotive manufacturing company, based in the Eastern Cape, manufacturing components and body-building for the vehicle industry.  Fabkomp was later merged into the TFM Group and DEC’s shareholding in that entity became 18,8%. A recent majority acquisition of TFM Holdings by Kwane Capital has left DEC holding 11,85% of the company unencumbered.


The Kuzuko Contractual Park is a 16,500 ha private game reserve in the Greater Addo Elephant National Park in the Eastern Cape.  DEC is the lead empowerment partner in the concession operating company of the lodge, holding 24%.

Since March 2005, DEC holds 10,01% of ICapital, which is a niche investment house that provides both Corporate Finance Advisory Services and Private Equity Fund Management Services.


DEC Trust holds 35% of Elgin-Identity Rail Corporation which holds 24% of Ubumbano Rail which holds 30% of Gibela Rail Transport Consortium which was awarded the R51bn PRASSA Rolling Stock Fleet Renewal Contract.

DEC holds 3,9% of Sphere Holding (Pty) Ltd, an empowerment investment holding company, since September 2005.


DEC holds 25,54% of Taquanta Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd which in turn owns Taquanta Asset Managers, Taquanta Treasury Solutions, and Taquanta Securities.


DEC owns 5,1% of Aeronautica which is a niche underwriting manager offering pilot excess insurance to the aviation industry.

The Biovac Consortium won the bid in November 2001 to be the Government’s strategic equity partner to take up 60% of the equity in the Biovac Institute, the State’s vaccine production facilities in Johannesburg and Cape Town. DEC holds a 15% share in the Consortium.
